What Is Global Coverage Health Insurance?

You often encounter uncharted territory as a traveling Nomad. However, you never enter it alone when you have Insured Nomads protecting you against the mayhem and chaos that the journey may unveil.

We believe that both Travel Insurance and Global Health Insurance, also commonly referred to as International Health Insurance, provide you with the confidence and peace of mind you need to embark on your exhibition of passion, discovery, and adventure without fear.

Brother From Another Mother

In order to gain a confident understanding of Global Health Insurance, we thought it might be pertinent to skim the surface of the key differences between it and Travel Insurance:

Global Insurance Policy

Commonly referred to as International Health Insurance, our Global insurance program is a global risk management strategy for those who work abroad or plan extended stays outside their home country.

If you are planning to live an extended amount of time in another nation, whether for work or pleasure, you need a comprehensive health insurance plan from Insured Nomads to offer you major medical and health coverages during multinational travel. Your plan at home will most likely not cover you once you travel internationally, especially for extended stays, including most state Medicaid and federal Medicare policies.

Global Health Insurance covers you for healthcare costs for services like childbirth, hospital fees, cancer treatments, emergencies, preventative health screenings, mental health, emergency room visits, prescription drugs, chronic care, and ongoing coverages for the entire duration of your plan in the nation or nations you selected and is renewable at the end of each term which is typically one year. If this sounds like your traditional major medical/health insurance plan at home, you are absolutely correct, and it is a great way of looking at it.

Travel Health Insurance Coverage

We call our travel insurance the World Explorer Plan, which is best suited for those planning a quick trip or vacation of more than seven days outside of their country. Unlike the Global Health Insurance plan, this type of insurance is for when you do not plan to remain abroad for an extended period of time.

If you are heading overseas or to the Caribbean where you only plan to be away from your home country for a few days, weeks, or months you do not need Global Health Insurance, but you do need coverage for any emergencies that may arise. Travel health insurance offers coverages for emergency medical care, medical evacuations, COVID-19 and Malaria infections, emergency dental procedures, emergency eye exams, laboratory fees, and more.

Are you visiting Paris from Chicago for two weeks on vacation? Travel Health Insurance is the appropriate insurance plan for you. Received an assignment to your company’s Dubai location for at least the next 18 months? Global Health Insurance is the right plan for you. In addition, some circumstances might make it wise to purchase other policies on the insurance market, including international business insurance and auto insurance, or a controlled master program (CMP).

International Insurance: How Is It Different From Local Insurance?

Global Health Insurance from Insured Nomads is similar to local policies, but this insurance product meets all your insurance needs while in a foreign country. It offers insurance solutions for regulatory and risk exposures like property damage, general liability insurance, emergency, routine, preventative, and chronic care in the countries you have selected in your plan. It offers ongoing medical coverage for the entire duration of your plan and stay, which is typically one year. The plan is renewable at the end of the term.

What’s more, our Global Health Insurance plan also includes both dental and vision coverage. When we say comprehensive, we mean it. Typical health insurance plans do not include dental and vision benefits which must be purchased on independent plans.

Thanks to the Global Health Insurance program structure, your total health is protected. Dental and vision health is just as important to your overall quality of life as other aspects.

The Cost of Healthcare

Healthcare costs continue to rise globally, with the difference in limits of cost for healthcare topping most families’ budgets. The average cost for medical transport in a helicopter in the United States currently sits at about $31,000.00 for a 30-45 minute medevac flight. Over 60% of bankruptcies filed in the United States are related to defaults on medical expenses. In 2020 Americans spent over four trillion dollars on healthcare! That’s more than the annual budget of most nations around the world and every state budget in the U.S.

These increases in costs for healthcare have also subsequently led to an increase in the cost of insurance plans to cover services provided by doctors and hospitals. A recent study found that healthcare spending in the U.S. was nearly $12,000 per capita, and they expect the current trend to increase to approximately $18,000 per capita by the year 2028. The same increase has occurred with insurance premiums, having risen nearly 40% in the last seven years.

Once considered an automatic benefit, employees are now faced with the reality that they may not keep their health insurance once they retire, with health insurance consuming the bulk of employer budgets, especially for retirees.

Reality Check

If it sounds like we are being negative please know that this is not our intention. We just find it incredibly important to illustrate to you the importance of having Global Health Insurance prior to embarking on your extended travels around the world.

We want to help you silence that voice in the back of your head telling you to just take the chance and assume it will all be alright. You know, that same voice that told you jumping off the roof of the shed when you were eight wouldn’t hurt that bad, or the one that told you doing a belly flop from the high-dive board would be cool?

Insurance, in all of its forms, is risk mitigation, redistribution, and financial insulation. Put more plainly, it allows us to shift the burden and risk of financial insecurity onto the insurance company.

We retain a small portion of the risk in the form of coinsurance, deductibles, and premiums, but the bulk of the risk lies with the company. This guarantees that if we experience a covered peril that will cost thousands of dollars to mitigate that we do not have to bear that burden alone.

The benefit of purchasing a Global Health Insurance plan from Insured Nomads is two-fold:

First, you receive a comprehensive plan that covers almost every health need that may arise while you are abroad, offering you financial protection and security.

Second, and most importantly, you receive peace of mind while you travel and live abroad from a provider with years of experience. Peace of mind may seem like an intangible benefit, but we consider it the greatest benefit with significant tangible outcomes. The best the insurance industry has to offer gives you the ability to carry out your life without fear of financial ruin, in turn increasing the quality of your life, reducing stress, and the freedom to live the Nomad life you have always dreamed of.

You cannot afford to leave home for more than a year without the protection and peace of mind that Global Health Insurance provides. We believe you deserve the very best coverage while abroad and we want you to know why we are the partner you need on your adventure.

Insured Nomads Advantage

Like you, we are world citizens, deeply connected to the global community of those who break barriers and go beyond borders. We do not limit ourselves to the confines of just one continent, or any single nation for that matter, and neither do you.

Our founders have lived on all continents and our team is made of travelers and nomads, people who often live, work, and play outside of their home country. Our organization is diverse, global, and distributed. We are as passionate about exploration, adventure, and global enlightenment as our clients, and because of that one thing is certain — we get you!

We’ve experienced the frustrations that come from the complexities of insurance firsthand. There’s a need for change in how the insurance experience unfolds for those who travel and encounter the unexpected, the unplanned, or the catastrophic. Insurance contracts can be complicated, and insurance terms even more so. We have made it our mission to change that.

The trials you face while abroad should be met with support and care, not avenues to find a way out which can lead only to abandonment. They should be handled with empathy and in a language you understand. Getting the right policy and filing a claim when needed should be made simpler with modern tools and technology. A stakeholder deserves an insurance company and underwriter steeped in a spirit of solidarity and generosity.

We’ve come together to turn this transformation into a reality so that we may all explore the world with protection beyond insurance, increased wellbeing, and unparalleled peace of mind. We can help you with everything from claims handling to staying compliant with local laws, jurisdictions, and customs.

We look forward to the journey. Whether it’s in New York, Beijing, or Sao Paulo, we will see you out there!
